I love this passage in scripture. Found in 2 Samuel 9, David is wanting to honor the family of the man that tried to kill him for over 13 years because of his beloved friend, Jonathan. He wanted to show kindness. He wanted to be Jesus with skin on. So he restored all the lands to this son of Jonathan, Mephibosheth. David also gave this man a seat at his table, he wanted for nothing. David lavished kindness on him. Kindness isn’t just words, it is not just saying the nice things. It is an action.
I married into an amazing family. They are first of all kind, generous and loving. They roll up their sleeves and do the stuff! Every other weekend my in-laws are feeding the homeless in Santa Cruz. They run a non-profit that care for the orphans and widows in India. They are an seemingly endless supply of help and support for my husband, myself and our 4 children. They exemplify this fruit of the Spirit and they have taught my husband and children to do the same. I am so thankful for their kindness, for giving me a seat at the table and allowing me to partake in the meal. I may be an orphan, just like Mephibosheth, but God has shown his kindness to me.
